Doreen Ngemera, Grade 11
UWCEA Arusha Campus
UWC offers exposure to a variety of activities in different aspects including academic, creative as well as intellectual activities. My strong passion lies in writing, debate as well as MUN. As I look forward to attend UWC, one of the areas I am drawn into is joining the writing community that is present. Putting my interest, passion and skills for writing would be great especially being involved in a writer’s community. Participating in debate competitions as well as MUN conferences where my critical thinking skills would be put into practice both internally and externally if any is another great opportunity, I am looking forward to take part in.
In terms of physical activities, my love for basketball is never-ending and it would possibly proceed as I head into UWC. Getting intensive training that would allow me to improve my skills in the sport is one I am looking forward to. I look forward to representing my school interschool matches especially during the sports weekend at UWC East Africa whereby neighboring schools are invited to partake in several sports competitions.
CAS is another aspect of UWC East Africa that I am looking forward to. In all aspects of CAS creativity, Activity and Service I aim to make the most out of my CAS hours and requirements. Whether it's serving the community around my campus to make an impact or whether it’s ensuring I remain physically active and lead a healthy lifestyle as part of the activity aspect. All is something I am looking forward to. One of the ideas I have for CAS is developing a project to be done in neighboring schools surrounding my campus. This project involves educating students on climate change issues as well as implementing projects as part of addressing environmental issues.
Another fundamental part I look forward to pursuing are my classes. Doing the IB is rigorous and challenging but I look forward to building myself in different aspects as I carry on with my educational journey. At higher level I plan to Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches, Biology as well as Chemistry. At standard level I plan to take English language and literature, French B together with Economics.
I believe this would be a wonderful experience. I look forward to tacking my classes in terms of academics. But I also look forward to partaking in debate, MUN, basketball, swimming and so much more. I look forward to exploring new interests.
UWC East Africa offers an outdoor pursuits program which involves different exciting adventures. From hiking to biking to 24hour runs. I look forward to pursuing the adventures which I believe would be an exciting experience.
