First on the list on what I truly am grateful for is my family. My family for so many reasons that is. From the moment the world welcomed me into its embrace my first ever encounter was my family. Sure, my younger siblings weren’t around at the time. Although ever since they too set foot on Earth the bond that exists between us is remarkable. The ups and downs, the laughter and joy shared between us truly is phenomenal.
One moment my mind wouldn’t ever let go is the time I was chosen as a representative to take part in the debate showcase in a debate competition. With more than 400 students on the day from all around my city; I knew I was doomed. Or so I thought. The terror and anxiousness that grasped me was intense. “There’s no backing out in this!” I told myself. My name was already announced and the only option left for me was to walk on stage. How I was going to give out a four-minute debate speech in front of more than 400 students? My mind wondered. Deep breaths in and out were my resort. Courage assembled itself as time flew past. “There’s no backing out!” I reminded myself. The spotlight was mine. As soon as I grabbed the mike, looked the audience in the eye; I thought to myself “This is it”. That moment where I mustered the courage, I am grateful for that moment.
My health in general is another thing I can say I am grateful for. I am grateful for the ability to rise up in the morning; walk around freely with my two legs that carry me around; occasionally run whenever I intend to. Being able to be energetic well knowingly that I could do anything because I am healthy. Without great health I know my body wouldn’t be able to hold it together. The pathogens looking for an entrance would then have control leaving me weak, sick and helpless. As of now in great health, I can say my health is among those I’m grateful for.
One that may be odd on the list is a glass of water. One of my favorite drinks although its taste can be termed as bland or dull. Bland and dull are two words I wouldn’t meekly use to describe the beauty I find in water. When thirsty water is my resort. When I awake during the deep night water is my resort, always ready as my resort. The freshness it offers, the relaxation it offers truly is underrated. On a sunny scorching day, a glass of water is perfect to quench my thirst. A glass of water as odd as it may be; I am grateful.
This list can’t end without a special mention of my friends. Whether we encounter in school or elsewhere the moments we share are joyous and entertaining with boredom failing to take over. Whether it’s laughing at the smallest insane things that leave our stomachs aching for rest. Or the long phone calls during vacations where a screen keeps us together. Being there for each other, the support; I am grateful.
