If someone asked me what my all time favorite book is, I’d say Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling. I came across the book while perusing the school library and was immediately drawn to read it despite how thick it was. The first time I read this book, my mind ran wild. The vivid descriptions that make it possible for the reader to feel as though they are there make it one of my favorites. Joanne Kathleen Rowling, pen name Joanne Rowling, is a British author and is the creator of the Harry Potter series(The Editors of Encyclopedia Britannica). The first Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, was published in 1997 and quickly gained popularity amongst children and adults. The initial publication then paved the way for the subsequent release of six additional books, each of which was met with similar praise and criticism.
The book takes readers on a journey through the life of Harry Potter. Harry Potter is a young wizard studying at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. With his friends Ron and Hermione by his side, he never has a dull moment because an adventure is always in store. He was left an orphan after his parents were killed by the evil Lord Voldemort and was forced to live with his human aunt and uncle, who despise him. The Harry Potter trilogy has received numerous awards, such as the FCBG Children’s Book Award 1997 Overall winner in Longer Novel Category, the Birmingham Cable Children’s Book Award 1997, and British Book Awards 1997 Children’s Book of the Year. The book series has also been adaptedinto movies but even though it was the second biggest movie franchise of all time, it still didn’t win any oscars(“Why Did Harry Potter Never Win an Oscar?”).
One of my favorite lines in the Prisoner of Azkaban came as Dumbledore’s encouragement to Harry when he said, “Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.”(“Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban Quotes by J.K. Rowling”). This spoke to me because it reminded me of something my parents used to tell me when I was a child, and the fact that it was in a book I loved also helped it stick in my mind. This book is the perfect choice for anyone looking to pique their imagination. The descriptions and character development in J.K. Rowling's book are what make it so entertaining to read; there is never a dull moment.
