MILA

Lilia Bellahcen, Grade 12
UWC Costa Rica

The sky is gray and the rever opaque,
The smoke comes out of the car,
Mila can’t breathe.

An oil refining plant is set not far from the city,
Her lungs filling up with air at an irregular rhythmicity,
Her cough doesn't stop,
Mila is hot.

Her throat is dry,
But the water is dirty,
Mila is thirsty.

She might die.
Today or tomorrow,
Her heart beats are weaky,
That is all we know.

Mila is skinny and dirty,
No roof on her head,
All she can do is cry.

No one is caring,
And like the Earth,
Mila is deteriorating.
