My space in nature

Kwagala Ndawula, Grade 9
UWCEA Moshi

The Moshi campus is famous for its beautiful surroundings, including its trees, wildlife, and greenery. It was my favorite part of the school when I first got there. When you wake up, you could hear birds singing in the trees or perhaps smell the moist grass as you go outdoors. It made me feel at home and was really welcoming. Although the whole of the campus is green, the 5k path is the greenest spot by far. It is a calm, natural area secluded from the hustle and bustle of school life. It was during the golden hour, so everything had a certain warmth to it, and it all looked so beautiful and was very calming to the eye.
The 5k route is a trail that circles the grounds of the school. I first found it when I was taking a walk around with my friend. What struck me most about this place was the view right in the corner looking up at the sky where you could see the mountain Kilimanjaro right through the clouds. The entire experience felt like I was literally "out of this world." Since boarding school can occasionally get stressful or overwhelming, it was a beautiful setting to get out and collect my thoughts. It helped me feel at peace and kind of became my escape. It was mainly a place for relaxation, whether I chose to sit in the center of the greenery or just have a 30-minute stroll through the trail.

Walking the 5k route every day became a habit, and I became used to the smooth mud under my feet as well as the smell of needle-covered paths and damp tree trunks. I sometimes listen to music or the surrounding tiny waterfall, it feels as though everything is playing in a single symphony to create the most beautiful piece of music. I would go into my thoughts and assess my actions, improve and reflect on myself as I see the smallest of birds and the brightest of butterflies. The place gives me the head space I need to be able to be myself and let my heart speak. The environment is perfect for brainstorming, and I constantly find myself going there when I've run out of ideas. I really love being there.
