Having a special place at which you feel comfort ,love, security and harmony is something we all hope and wish for but it is also possible that most people don’t have just one place but rather a couple or more where they get all the mentioned feelings. In school (Prince of Wales)I had a lot of places which I cherish very much because of one important thing or the other.
A place which I sincerely consider very special to me is the school canteen or should I say canteens as we had two of which we nicknamed the rich man’s canteen and the poor man’s which in our local we say ‘po man canteen and money man canteen’. We actually named this two canteens with respect to how we buy food from the sellers. The beauty of this place is that its the meeting point for boys of all levels in school here we get to meet and know each other and bond as we should as schoolmates. This place (The canteens(s)) is situated at the heart of our school which is located at the popular community of Kingtom which is a home for people of different cultures and regions but one of the most inspiring communities in the capital (Freetown).
As of now I still can see that place of bonding made of zinc built in that old fashioned style, that place at which after the sound of the bell for lunch we all rush to inorder to battle to secure the best part of the food available, at the ‘money man canteen’ the delicious and yummy but very expensive food can be found where as at the ‘po man’s canteen’we get the average but cheap food of which the popular choice of food was what we called ‘fold blow’ a very good food that every princewalean is familiar with as it has been in existence years before I started school at Prince of Wales. The delicacy of ours is made of flour mixed with things like fish, pepper,Maggie and to name but a few. This food is not really loved for its taste but rather for it’s cost as it is relatively cheaper than all the other delicacies. This place is not just special because of the fact that we get food there but the most important part of this place is that it is a place of discussion, arguments mostly about sports specifically football, politics, music and sometimes we discuss on our school itself and these discussions are mainly based on the school’s administration such as it’s teachers, prefects and other staffs. Sometimes these discussions lead to fights and heavy disagreements where as on the other hand it leads to build up of friendships and as a means of learning from one another things of significance.
This place personally had a very good impact in my life as it was at this canteen that I met friends who significantly added value to my life a very memorable one is that of when I met my former senior prefect and friend kajalie Bangura who really inspired me to be more versatile in life and that has really had its results in my life today.
Relating this to my campus (UWC Arusha campus) is something that will be very difficult to do as I have not been there yet. Nevertheless through my findings about UWC arusha campus I have found a place which I am passionate about and that is the performance area where I know assembly and other important things will be taking place.I see this place in this light because I see it as a place where I can get my memories at Prince of Wales refreshed and also be able to make new acquaintance s with the people I meet there.
This place for was the paradise at Prince of Wales and I am hoping I’ll have a place like that or even better at UWC Arusha campus on my arrival.
