Hello, and welcome back to “The Real Talk”
We are back again with another banging interview for you all, with no other than the Bear Grylls! Let us put our hands together for the legend amongst us today.
For those of you who don’t know him already, Edward Michael Grylls also known as Bear Grylls is currently 48 years old but still looks younger than he actually is. Bear is a British adventurer, writer, television presenter, and businessman. He was into adventure sports before he could even walk. During his early childhood, he learned to climb and sail with his father, who was a member of the prestigious Royal Yacht Squadron.
Later on, he learned how to skydive and earned a second dan black belt in Shotokan karate, He is also a talented speaker multilingual in English, Spanish, and French and is an author of many adventure books out there.
After finishing school, Grylls went on to spend three years as a soldier in the British Special Forces, as part of the 21 SAS Regiment where he perfected most of the survival skills his fans enjoy, as he contends against the worst of Mother Nature.
Now that everyone is acquainted with Bear let us get started with today’s interview and answer some of the most requested questions asked by our lovely audience!
Interviewer: Bear it is an honor to have the king of wilderness sitting with us today. How are you feeling?
Bear: it's my pleasure, thank you so much for having me… I am excited and super pumped to answer all the questions and hopefully get to listen to some of my conspiracies. Wink Wink
Interviewer: haha! Well let's get started, shall we?
We are all pretty curious on why you’re known as Bear when your real name is Edward.
Bear: well, my sister, Lara Fawcett gave me the nickname Bear when I was a week old and it just stuck.
Interviewer: Aw, that is very sweet! At least your sister loved you enough to give you a worthy nickname… While on the other hand, my sister used to call me Sam sung.
Bear: (laughing uncontrollably) she sure is a humorist!
Interviewer: no doubt about that!
So your great grandfather was a cricketer, your grandfather was a cricketer too followed by your dad who was an mp. Did you think that you would follow the same route?
Bear: Not really! I just loved getting muddy and climbing stuff. What's funny is that I was not a sporty person but rather shy and conservative. But I knew I loved hanging out with my dad and going on mini adventures, him being a commando and a climber. Growing up, it was my way of getting closer to my dad and adventure was something I was good at while it didn't require me to be good at school. Sometimes you need to have goals while sometimes you just need to go one step at a time, one day at a time.
Interviewer: Yes! I really advise everyone watching this show to really go for what they want rather than doing something which doesn’t make them happy. As Somebody has rightly said, 'Life is all about the choices we make. ' The decisions we take every single day, whether small or big, impact our lives in one way or another and determine how our coming years would unfold.
Moving on We heard about a terribly unfortunate accident that happened to you during your service in the SAS (Special Air Service). How do you live with the injury and what have you done to speed up the recovery?
Bear: Yes! During my time in SAS, I suffered a free-fall parachuting accident in Africa where I broke my back in three places. I had to go through months of rehabilitation and still undergo ice treatments to keep my mind and body calm.
The pain of breaking my back haunts me every single day to date. People sometimes ask me if my back ever hurts having broken it all those years ago in a parachuting accident. The answer is every day. And the treatment I get for it can be quite intense but life can at times be a battle for everyone and most people have their stuff to carry with them through the adventures. I choose just to be grateful for the opportunity to still be able to live life as best I can.
Interviewer: You are an inspiration to millions of people out there! You have proved that nothing is impossible with hard work, dedication, and determination. You are a fighter for attempting to climb one of the tallest and toughest mountains out there. Can you tell us more about your journey behind summiting Everest?
Bear: A climb to Mount Everest was one of my goals when I was in the hospital bed struggling to reach the bathroom door. It was one way to prove to myself that if I can reach the bathroom door, then the stairs, and soon start walking… I can climb Mount Everest too! And 18 months later there I was one of the two people from our group who reached the summit. I was grateful to see the curvature of the earth at the edges. You’re truly aware you're somewhere special.
Interviewer: OOH! It makes me want to climb Everest now although I know my wife will divorce me before I even attempt to get fit for it.
Bear: Haha! I really wouldn’t be the one to break apart your marriage. You should just stick to interviewing.
Interviewer: haha for sure!
All right so, Man vs wild, a show we love! What inspired the show and has it taught you anything new?
Bear: The discovery channel approached me about man vs wild. A show of survival in the wild! I was totally up for it. I learned so many different survival skills I never knew about. Of course not forgetting the fact that I had to eat some of the nastiest shit like raw goat's testicles along with frozen yak eyeballs. But no one said survival would be pretty.
Interviewer: Ewww Yuck! I could never!
Well, we have taken up a lot of your time. I would like to say a huge thanks to the legend Bear Grylls for taking some time out of his busy schedule and join us on the Real Talk.
We really enjoyed hearing all about your journey and past experiences! We look forward to having you for another episode in the near future
Bear: Thank you so much for having me! I had an amazing time answering all of the questions and hopefully clearing out some of my fan’s confusion. I will look forward to the next episode of Real Talk!
AND THAT'S A WRAP
