Usman Nyallay, Grade 11
UWCEA Arusha Campus
Since my admission into the UWCEA arusha campus I have been constantly following up on the traditions, occasions and traditions which really incites me and I am anxiously waiting to start this new fall of my life which is going to have an essential impact in my life.
My campus (UWCEA arusha campus) is located in a mountainous region in Tanzania and from the schools compound you can clearly get a view on Mt Meru. In accordance to the above at UWCEA out door pursuit trips are annually held and one of the most prominent ones are th e peaks which are basically concerned with hiking mountains. For students in Moshi, they have the Mt Kilimanjaro as their while the arusha campus has Mt Meru as its landmark for hiking. Other ops include the rides and reefs which are concerned with cycling in the local villages and rigorous swimming respectively and another part of the ops is the walk safari programme which is known as the plains.
The amazing things about these trips is not the fact that we get to see and know many places in the beautiful land of Tanzania but we also get a chance to bond with nature and ourselves as well creating a memorable atmosphere one that will be forever remembered in our minds. These experiences of the amazing natural features of Tanzania are one to behold and I see this a blessing to prepare me for more difficult adventures.
Let’s talk a bit about what actually goes on in campus, UWC in general is known for its diversifying and challenging curriculum but this has not been an obstacle for the students at UWCEA to explore and have fun within campus. In 2020 the first debating championship was held at arusha campus by its brave and initiative students which was really great. For me in personal this event is one I am interested in because in my school (prince of Wales) I was a member of the literary and debating society a school club which was dedicated in training us for debating, public speaking, and more and so I see this event at the UWCEA as a chance for me to get to improve on my skills as debater and also get to learn new skills as well.
As a lover of football, I am excited about the NTAA football tournament which was held in 2019 and I will be hopefully joining the arusha football team as I want to get to learn in all aspects of my life during my time at UWCEA. I am a very good football player from my perspective even though know self-praise is not good recommendation and I was part of my community team.
A very interesting event is the one which is usually held in which students from both campuses (arusha and Moshi campus) come together and meet at a point and they get to bond with each other making new friends and also meeting old ones from different cultures and countries across the world.
These events have been an integral part of the learning at UWCEA preparing students for the future.
