Writing a list of things that I’m grateful for has made me realize that no matter how small some things are, they make a huge difference in our life. So, here is a list of 5 things that I am personally grateful for. They might not be as big as landing the job of my dreams or finding the love of my life, but they keep me going on lazy mornings when all I want is snoozing my alarm.
That said, I am grateful for…
1. Basketball. Playing ball is what I look forward to everyday when I am bored in my DSS class (I never got the purpose of this class). It is something I do to relax or relieve my anger issues when I realize that Miss Jackie has given me a 6 againnnn (note my frustration), while I know I deserve a 7. Honestly, basketball for me is just like one of your best friends; that one you go to for every situation in your life. I bet you have someone like that in your life. Unless, obviously, if you suck just like me (I mean, no offense!).
2. Food! I know this might seem too cliché to appear on this list but for me, food is everything. When nothing else is working out in life, at least you know that you have food left. That is me every time I fail a chemistry test: I just sit down with my fries and barbecue chicken and hope that everything will be alright. Food is just fantastic! Every now and then, just remember that there might be someone starving on the street. Anyway, shout out to all those friends who eat but never get fat. Ever wondered how they do it? Well, me too.
3. All the 1% chance opportunities. I am not sure how it comes, but I have had so many life opportunities that I am grateful for. I am grateful for all the summer programs I got into (Yale, UChicago, and the pioneer research program). My whole life, I have been told that I have a 1% chance of getting things right but I did anyway. I am never the best applicant for any of this. It just proves that you have to try. Even when the odds are against you.
4. My “friends”. In case you have not figured it out yet, I am a loner. I am not even sure that “friends” fits the description of my relationships. That means that whoever I call “friend” must be brave enough to stay. I don’t chat, I am not nice, I am an introvert. So, I am grateful to those who decide to stay in my life despite what I make them go through. I am grateful to those who do not get scared away. Because I know for a fact that those are friends that will always have my back no matter what (even when I yell).
5.
Wondering why number five is blank? Well, I am grateful for the blank in my life, the undiscovered territory, the blank pages of my story that I still need to write and the opportunities ahead of me. I am grateful for the future and all it has to offer. Something that we should all be grateful for.
