Luanga Kasanga Jr, Grade 11
UWCEA (Arusha)
Ali begins this poem, just like he began my love for Syrian sweets,
But ended my dislike for laughing at bad jokes. Congolese and Bahraini flags were a centrepiece of our campus, Dancing around, underneath a loft bed, or in pretty pictures. Enthusiasm or care for the movement Faltered often, though the fire of few still burned. Geography sparked remarkable discussions about palm oil plantations in Indonesia, Homelands were defended passionately, and sometimes the whole of America Improvising yet successfully implementing plans during a blissful trip out to Pamoja in November, Jogging from touch rugby to tennis or jumping for rebounds in a blowout loss during Sports Weekend, Kilimanjaro gracing my eyesight for the first time on August 5th,these are all memories I will cherish. |
Let’s not forget (I wish I could):
Melodies interjecting
Nocturnal dreams
Often .
Performing karaoke during the UWC Café, before its co-creator’s vacation
Quotes hastily added to quote books during lunchtimes or evening conversations
Regret, the first thing I think of beginning with the letter R.
Stargazing, on the green blanket of the football field, or into someone’s stunning irises,
Terrific friends, too much touching things to talk of them in just one poem.
UWC…A special place indeed.
