Diego Flores, Grade 11
UWC Mostar
Even though I arrived late, my UWC experience has been memorable, giving me the chance to do many extracurricular activities. There are many activities I love doing here, but definitely, the one I love the most is football. This mainly because of the feelings it generates in people, and the passion, the mystic that surrounds it.
Since the beginning of my UWC experience, I have been practising football: my first day here, there was a football session, but my passion for it began long before. As a natural heritage, my dad transmitted to me the love for football, making me a fan of Barca and of my national team.
In the beginning, it was difficult to understand why football was special until I saw the best player in the world playing: Messi. He showed me all the magic that in football happens, making me feel the emotion, the intensity and the love in it, and all of this I can feel in Football CAS, plus the tiredness and the difficulty of playing well.
I attend 3 times a week, and if I could go more times, I would do it. We go to a football court near the school with the main core members and some guests, which are really lovely and talented, and we practice for 1hr. For practice, we have games between us, which makes us improve our in-game skills and gives us a better understanding of the game.
My favourite memory related to football is inter-residentials. Inter-residentials are a competition between the residences that hold UWC students, played once a year. It was such a fun and demanding experience for everyone, which let us interact even more with the other residences in healthy competition. This year the champion was Musala residence, the one for which I played. It was really symbolic because it was the last time Musala was going to play due to the change of residence.
Definitely, Football CAS is my favourite extracurricular activity due to the meaning it has to me and how I lived it. I hope that COVID doesn’t restrict us too much from being able to practice it as usual.
