The days at UWC Red Cross travel at the speed of light.
Blink...Monday….Blink...november..blink..2021! There is a saying that time goes faster when you are having fun. And it has been extremely fun at RCN, but there were also moments that I would not want to revisit. The stress and worries over tests and deadlines, but there’s also the late-night adventures in the woods. Life at RCN is a box of chocolates, sometimes you get the sweet marshmallow filled core, but there’s also some caramel ones (the flavor is subjective as I find caramel intolerable) hidden cunningly. You might not have the perfect blueprint of the order in which you are going to eat, but the knowledge of the existence of caramel flavoured chocolates might prepare you to overcome the challenges thrown in your way. And there are different ways we cope with it.
Mine is a hidden spot on the island situated nearby our school. I try to go there whenever time provides, and that’s a lot. I go there when I need to clear my mind, reset my mindset, take a break, or just to think without any disturbances. It’s a safe haven for me, something that keeps me grounded and calm. A getaway secret that’s mine alone to keep.
So today, I’ll share with you in words about how this confidential place of mine looks like. Well, first off, you need to cross a long wooden bridge that connects our school to the island. On my usual walks, I spent about ten minutes on the bridge, it provides an amazing view of the fjord, and if you look closely, you can even see small fishes swimming right below. The sky would be in all glory above the bridge, and the sunsets there is a sight to behold. Now let’s pass this bridge, and you’ll find yourself in a forest, though dense and scary at first it will grow onto you. The calming cricket sounds and the birds chirping deliver a company so soothing, often making me want to curl up on the moss floor and turn into a tree. Forever basking in sunlight, standing tall and proud. After getting past the woods you’ll reach the edges of the island; you’ll know when you are near as the sounds of water swashing will get clearer. And lo and behold, the entirety of the fjord will appear in front of you—the water’s gentle brushing against the land with only your heartbeat to listen to. Your sense of self will fade away(in a nice way), your ego is a part of nature and your breath and sweat turning into the transpiration and the oxygen of the leaves. A getaway from it all, my own sweet place and the place that my heart will always return to even after I’m long gone.
