"Education is a very powerful and valuable weapon in changing the world", so said the former first president of South Africa, the late Nelson Mandela. Education is a very important resource, this is clearly demonstrated by the UWC community as UWC makes education a force in uniting people and different cultures to create a better and peaceful world.
UWC is a happy and peaceful community, the world of UWC is a world where people of different nationalities meet, live and study together while giving up their differences culturally, racially or nationally but those differences have been given a chance to unite together with all the good things from culture.
I began to experience the happiness and life in general of the UWC community directly from the interview. Indeed, even though it was a competitive day, looking for a few people among the many who will get a chance to join the UWC community but none of them considered themselves that way instead people cooperated and gave each other opportunities to give ideas and show their abilities.
Indeed, that thing taught me that competition is not hostility but learning from everyone who has something new. The games we participated in became competitive but in the end we learned that the purpose of games is to have fun even though competition is a part of games.
Indeed, from the image I got on the day of the interview especially that of the grouped interview, the image of smiling and funny people, people of different races but with solidarity, I really liked UWC and wanted to be part of that community.
The main thing that unites people in UWC is education, indeed education is a very good thing but it is best when people with different experiences collaborate and share the knowledge they have, that is what life at UWC is like.
Different people from different countries who use different systems meet and exchange knowledge and use it in one IB system. A fascinating cultural diversity is home to UWC, surely the knowledge gained within two years at UWC is immeasurable. These two years are golden because it is within these two years that people's attitudes change into friendly attitudes, it is within these two years that people see where they are going and concrete ways to make the world a better and safer place.
Enjoying the beauty of nature cannot be separated from this community, visiting different parks and reserves in different countries. For example, visiting the plains of the Ngorongoro valley a world heritage site and climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. Learning about the local communities and getting various knowledge from them. For example, the Maasai communities in East Africa.
UWC is a place where even if you stay for just one day, you cannot leave as you came, I remember the day of the interview when I learned a new game of rock, sheet and scissors, indeed UWC means happy Knowledge. Happiness, knowledge, peace and security are inseparable things when you talk about UWC.
Indeed, Kurt Han is a very special person in the history of this world, because without him UWC would probably remain just a story in our ears.
Long live the UWC community, long live the true smile.
