“The best view comes after the hardest climb.”
Many people enjoy hiking - it can be therapeutic and can help maintain good health. Although I am not much of a hiker myself, I have always dreamt about having a memorable experience with my friends. Now I can proudly say the Moduli Hike definitely helped me realise that dream. It was a one-night hiking trip, we left at 7am and were supposed to reach by 10am. We drove for approximately 3 hours, half the ride on a ruff, bumpy road. Every attempt to sleep was denied by a stray rock that lifted up the entire bus. |
Looking at the sizes of the hills, we all thought this hike would be a walk in the park. But just half an hour in and we were out of breath, holding our hands on the trees for support. Sweat ran down my forehead, as we tried finding some shade below the treetops. All I could do was find relief in some ice-cold water that allowed me to refresh myself. Doubts and questions started arising...would be able to make it or not?
“C’mon, we are almost there, you can do it!!”. The guides kept us motivated throughout the whole journey, even though they lied every time.

The breathtaking view seemed to entice us closer to the top, as we slowly struggled with each step. Surrounded in immense nature, we could hear the sounds of animals echoing around us. Whenever we took a break, the Oreos were a burst of energy that reminded me that there was still hope. Moving higher up, the wind would brush past our ears, cooling our sore bodies. Every time we reached the top of another hill, I kept the group waiting for a few minutes to capture the natural play of colours on my camera. A small memory to take back home with me. Another wonderful experience was the social aspect. We all started the hike as strangers and ended it as friends, hugging and wishing each other the best of luck. We bonded, laughed hysterically, talked about school and how our lives had been going.
It was perfect. |
