Every year in my life I always have something to be grateful for and this has made me develop an optimistic but also a pessimistic mind set about life and its gifts such as experiences, people and things around.
A year in my case that if I had the chance to turn the hands of time, I would love to be in again is the year 2016. This year like every other year of my life was full of sad, happy, memorable and joyful moments of which I was able to make some dreams of mine come true and some were left just as mere dreams which were never realised and as such, I just wish I had the opportunity to go back in time and complete these uncompleted dreams and fulfil dreams which just had to remain as dreams in life.
In 2016 I was admitted into secondary school and this first year in school was the best as it was filled with happy moments which I am happy for. It was in this year that responsibility, respect, discipline and perseverance were brought to my doorsteps which I had gladly embraced. A chapter of my life in this year was my first journey to my paternal village in upcountry Kailahun district, jojoima village to be precise. Here I was able to learn about the traditions of my people the Mende of Sierra Leone which was an experience I would love to have every day of my life. This year was full of trips and one that really had its effect on me was my school trip to the military training camp in Benguma, there I was enlightened about the military in a very broad manner as I was made to understand that the military has people of all careers within it and I was also made to know about their difficult and impressive training which they undergo.
For the most part of this year my life was filled with good and happy memories. In contrast to these happy days, I also had moments which did have negative impacts on me. These unhappy days were filled with trauma, sadness and pain. It was in the early days of march when my father who is the sole provider of our home was ill with his usual sickness of gastric ulcer and as a result of his illness the whole family was in pain which saw me not go to school for about a month because of fees. But eventually with the grace of God he got better and was on his feet again.
Another issue which had an impact in the entire country in this year was the flooding which happened in august which took the lives and properties of many people in Sierra Leone one that will forever be in the minds of our countrymen.
As I mentioned earlier on, I had dreams which were not fulfilled and some of these dreams include me having a one-to-one conversation with the president and tell him what I think he should, being able make my country a first to recon with in terms of education and infrastructure and a very interesting one was me wanting to be a president at age 13. “Life always offers us many things and of these offers it is up to us to choose those that best suits us” and for me the year 2016 is one in which I had many memorable moments which I sincerely appreciate and would hope to have them a million times as they prepared me for the memorable coming days of my life.
