Wangyue Zhou, Grade 11
UWCSEA Dover Campus
I have long heard about UWC. My UWC story does not only include my experience at UWC but also relates to previous personal emotions toward UWC. It all started in 2015, back in the year when I was still in Grade 4. My hometown is one of the third-tier cities in China, which means it does not maintain an economy as prosperous as that of Shanghai or Beijing. Yet one day, the local government announced the construction scheme of a new school, the mission of which is to make education a force to unite people, nations, and cultures for peace and a sustainable future. By now you should have guessed that my hometown is Changshu and that the ‘new’ school back then is UWCCSC. Their values attract me immediately, which made me set a goal——to be admitted——to UWCCSC. Therefore, I entered a foreign language school to continue my studies after finishing primary school. Three years spent at the middle school had taught me uncountable life-long lessons that I would otherwise never have learned. Being independent, gentle, creative, sagacious, and enthusiastic made me become a person who is capable of facing numerous challenges and being urged to work towards a sustainable future. These qualities enabled me to get into UWCCSC smoothly. The past year at UWCCSC helped me develop my potential to work towards my scheme. Peace and sustainability class at school allowed me to share thoughtful ideas with other ambitious peers. One day our teacher told us about United Worldwide. I was astonished to hear that UWCSEA has such a committee of young people who are dedicated to writing about their UWC stories. Therefore, I ended up finishing my passion project in collaboration with United Worldwide. The product is a magazine composed of selected past United Worldwide articles. Later I got to know more about UWCSEA, and surprisingly to everybody else, I applied to study at UWCSEA——to pursue my dream. The outcome is pleasing that I got admitted by UWCSEA, which means I have a chance to officially become a member of United Worldwide. Only at this moment, my goal back in middle school was fully fulfilled——to truly bring students and families interested in UWC——together. I even named it United Family three years ago. I guess this is also the prototype of United Worldwide. This significant moment made me understand what UWC is truly about——to achieve dreams——through education and efforts. This is not the end of my UWC story; instead, it’s just the start——I can now pursue my sustainable expedition. Hi, United Worldwide.
