Stopping plastic is never an easy thing to do, but together we can make a really big difference in the world. There are approximately 17.6 billion pounds of plastic that set foot in the oceanic environment. I am going to tell you how we can reduce plastic globally and how plastic harms the environment. Although plastic is a very common topic I still want to emphasize how important it is.
“BE PART OF THE SOLUTION, Not PART OF THE Pollution” - Stephan & Covey.
Plastic is ending up in our oceans every day since the 1960s. Currently, an average of 8 million plastic pieces are dumped in the ocean. If the earth gets destroyed by plastic pollution it’s going to be our fault. Not only humans will get hurt, but the animals will also be extinct. If we all put our minds together anything is possible, including stopping plastic. Let’s act on this cause promptly before it gets too late.
To share facts Approximately, 17.6 billion pounds of plastic are dumped into the marine ecosystem every year. This is almost the same as dumping one whole garbage truck(full of plastic) into the ocean every single minute.
Millions of people and trillions of animals will be impacted by plastic if humans keep on destroying the world. If people don’t stop using plastic, the Earth won’t be saved because our planet is currently dying.
Plastic does more than polluting the world, animals eat them, plastic can enter people’s food and then poison them, and it can even cause global warming. If we don’t act now, it will be too late.
“If not now, when?” - Eckhart Tolle
Poor animals are getting killed by eating plastic and it’s not even their fault. Sea Turtles and Seals are the animals that are dying most because of plastic. More than 4,600 Sea Turtles and more than 1 million Seals die each year because of plastic. Help these animals from getting extinct, sooner or later they will go. We might never see them again.
Human beings have made the world a lot more difficult for animals to survive. Just think about it, they were here before us. And a lot of the different animal species got extinct because of us, if we stayed out of nature paths we could’ve learned a lot more about stuff. But we can’t, animals just keep on dying.
“When animals are gone, when every last life has been stolen, how will you remember them? Extinction is forever.”
There are people from all over the world trying to be freegan. There are ginormous countries, such as Germany that are going to ban single-use plastic bags in 2021. If people in enormous countries can stop plastic, so can we. Many young people are changing the world starting with a small place. If people want to stop single-use plastics, all they have to do is mostly have a group of friends that have the same target as you.
Singapore is also taking massive steps to ban single-use plastic, and Singapore is doing quite well. Most of the imported plastic is no single-use plastic.
If you want to make a change to plastic then these are some ideas. Instead of getting plastic bags at supermarkets, you can get reusable bags. When you buy a drink you can either not use a straw or you could have metal straws to drink from. People can start making posters saying no to plastic straws and plastic bags. You should try to talk to people and try to convince them to ban plastic bags where they can.
In school, we are learning about how to stop plastic. In this article, I’ve spread awareness for you to make a difference. I’ve also tried my best to articulate my thoughts to you. Starting to spread awareness with school or with a group of people/friends is a very good place to start, later on, you can start to collaborate with people that are acquaintances to you. If you want to research how to stop plastic you should, don’t let anyone stop you. You might think that you won’t make such a big difference right now, but you are making a difference in the future. I bet Nelson Mandela, and Albert Einstein thought that their work won’t make a difference, but now their work changed the world.
I hope you got some inspiration from reading this article, if you did please help the world and try your best to stop plastic globally. Encourage people to support you on the way, and who knows you might be the inspiration to other people in the world. Always remember, one tiny difference goes a long way. 2 Hands can do wonders and there are 15.6 Billion hands in the world, together we can stop plastic.
