Having to think of anyone important to me, I cannot help but think of my family. To be honest, opening myself up has been the most difficult thing to do. I could not really think of myself being a part of the family and often made me awkward nearby them. I used to question a lot by how kind my cousin's family are, towards me, my family, and a lot of people whether it is someone they know or just some passerby.
Time passed by and I began to open my mind little by little. I started to realize that those simple things my parents and my cousin's family has taught and showed me are actually meaningful. I began to see life in a new light. The older I get, the more I can observe my surroundings better and gradually notice the difference of how people treat others. Some treat their own kind finely and some could be said as the bare minimum. Then, I noticed the reactions of the people that received each different attitude or treatments and I felt the sudden urge inside of me to actually wanting to make people smile. This then becomes my daily motivation to keep going on even though disasters may have come my way.
Days passed and I stayed with my family without fail. I began to understand a fascinating fact from them that any act of kindness, no matter how big it is, will always reward them with various forms of kindness from so many people. Aside from them gaining the respect and recognition of anyone they have come in contact with, for example my cousin's family always buys and provides meals for all the guests and relatives, or my cousin shares dozens boxes of food to share with people in need for her sweet seventeenth birthday. In return, they receive so much food such as cakes, breads, fruits, etc.
I tried to do the same act of kindness and experienced this tingling sensation from within. Once, I ordered myself meals through delivery and ordered one extra portion for the driver. The driver was actually moved and kept on expressing their gratitude. I was happy to see that they were happily receiving the extra meal.
Despite all that, my wild mind then thought of rather if I did the act of kindness because I want to help people, or is it for those people showing me their gratitude that makes me feel pleased doing them the favor?
I kept on thinking and thinking until I came to the conclusion that it does not really matter what the motive behind your kindness is as long as you put your mind to what you are doing. Because what is insignificant for us could mean the whole world to some people, I have decided that whatever reason it may be, it is my decision to show my goodwill and I am fully aware of it. So, I am hoping that for anyone that has been mistakenly accused of helping only for their own benefits under the guise, do not really pay your mind to it as it is fully your decision and no matter what intentions you have in mind; if it makes you happy then go for it.
