The game of Golf is a sport that requires both patience and control. One of my greatest Idols, Eldrick Tont Woods was born on December 30, 1975. He is a professional golfer and is one of the greatest of all time. Currently, Woods has 82 PGA wins to this date, he has tied Sam Snead for this and is still on the prowl for more victories. Also, Tiger is an 18-time major winner! Tiger’s success and comeback make him one of the greatest the sport has ever seen. Woods started as a prodigy, learning how to play at the mere age of 3. Tiger showed interest in the sport at just 6 months, he would watch his father hit golf balls into a net and he would imitate the swing. Tiger would grow up to be one of the most successful golfers the world has ever seen. Tiger turned professional in 1996 at age 21. He then went on to stay as world number 1 for a vast 683 weeks and win three grandslams!
To me, Tiger is an inspiring character mainly due to his dedication and success. In addition, In July of 2018, I watched Tiger Woods play the Open Championship after the junior championship was held a week before. I participated in the Junior Open and was lucky enough to see Tiger in action. Tiger Woods walked with so much confidence, chin up and chest out. It showed me that if you work hard for something, you can achieve it.
Tiger Woods’ success was not the only thing that makes him inspirational to me, it was also his failure and comeback. Tiger suffered from multiple injuries that restrained him from golf: such as, having to go under 8 knee surgeries. Tiger would train for golf heavily regularly which would lead to him overworking his body, crossing the limits. I think this also motivates me to push myself, train, and try my best each time I play a tourney. Tiger's downfall started in 2009, people believed that the champion would never return to the sport. He claimed that he would take an ‘indefinite break’ from the sport. After this dark time, Tiger managed to bounce back. Woods returned to the winner's circle for the 80th time in his PGA Tour career on September 23, 2018. This is very inspiring as it shows me never to give up. Almost everyone in the world was doubting a comeback from Tiger, but he did it. Tiger was back!
I grew up watching Tiger Woods on TV as my family was heavy around golf. Tiger was my idol from the start. I look up to him as he is one of the greatest players of all time. He also taught me never to give up as I learned from his comeback. I began playing golf about 4 years ago, looking up to Tiger, mimicking swing. One of Tiger's famous quotes: ‘No matter how good you get, you can always get better and that’s the exciting part’ was meaningful to me as it told me that there is always room to improve, no matter how good you are at something. Moreover, golf teaches people how to manage their emotions as well as have a strong mentality. Tiger was said to have one of the toughest mentalities the sport has ever seen! Tiger Woods has always been my idol; he has pushed the limits of the sport and is one of the greatest the world has ever seen.
