“Click, click, click”. “Delete, delete, delete”. Writing my first ever article, damn, it’s a struggle. So, let’s have a flashback to ease things, shall we?
“Millions of years ago..”. Umm, fast forward. “Once upon a time..”. Umm, fast forward. “Cries are heard from the maternity ward, a baby boy is bor..”. Let’s fast forward to the point where I begin school. Starting kindergarten and my primary level of education at a single cultured-religious based school was both an advantageous and disadvantageous move. Advantageous in a way, it guided me closer to my religion and assisted me in a spiritual way but disadvantage was that I was circumscribed among a fixed group of people and was limited to both resources and exposure to explore the outside world.
Fast forward to 2017, last year of middle school. Completed my final year and exams. Alongside that, I grew and matured, intensified participation in external competitions, observed other people switching schools and kept wondering how that would work out. I pondered and finally decided to move! 2018, new year, new school, new challenge and a whole new life awaits. I moved to a multicultural school, finally, removing myself from the soft spot of life and revealing myself to this whole new world full of opportunities. Life just began for me! I defied many odds trying to adapt into a different school but I conquered them and yeah, game over. I won!
Haha, you thought. Skip to 2021 and pause. I completed 4 years of education at the latter and felt a ‘reversal’ in myself. Obviously, that change was an exigency for me, it moulded me into a more matured and more curiosity impelled person, devoted to success.
‘Insert random fact’- One of my diversions is that I like to read, click on random links on Wikipedia and unearth random stuff. One day, I came over an article on Nelson Mandela, promulgating that, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” Further clicking, led me to the article asserting Nelson Mandela as an honorary president of UWC. Curiosity crept in, my eyes widened and that’s when I found out about UWC and the whole idea that just captured my whole soul. The fact that I get to gain knowledge through IBDP programme, engage in a multicultural system and have a platform to express myself all while exploring and adapting to a outlandish but homy milieu. I was sold. That’s when I made my decision, yupp, this is where i’m steering my ship towards.
Hello, you there, back to 2022. I finally got accepted into UWC East Africa, Arusha Campus after innumerable interviews, emails, pressure from family members. I have packed both excitement and nervousness including my laughter, my sarcasm, my curiosity, my late nights, my F.R.I.E.N.D.S binge watching, my eagerness to learn, but hold on-shoot-I forgot to pack my clothes. Obviously, you all think it’s the end but the movie has just begun. Be right back-”I have to pack my bag for this epic journey.”
