If I could go back in time. If I had a time machine. For what purpose would I use it?
I would go back to December, one year ago. I had just finished my first semester of school in Tanzania. I went back home, to The Netherlands, in a long flight with long layovers, while having never flown on my own before. To me this is important, because it was somehow representing a small adventure, even though I was returning from one.
I had not been home for half a year, during which time I had been put in an environment that was completely opposite to my home country. To me, it was a strange experience to return, because I wasn’t experiencing this the same as I had before. While I was at home, I did realise that my time away had affected the view of my home country. Interactions with family and friends, going places that are filled with modern developments and most of all time management, all contributed to this. I won’t go into how exactly this influence changed me, as I am very sure it will not be understandable (or logical for that matter), for any person other than myself. When I went back to Tanzania I did not realise that my time back home had further developed this perspective until months and months later.
For that reason, I think that if I would be able to return to another moment in time, it would be here. I believe that December last year was a turning point for personal development, even though I had expected to change back to my old ways more. I am wondering if this experience with the benefit of hindsight would have an even stronger impact.
