We all have that one person that we look upto. I think it's so important to have a role model in one's life because it gives us direction, it gives us a reason to become a better version of ourselves. For me, it's what I tell myself when I feel demotivated, I see it as my goal and end destination that I always strive to achieve.
So, who do I look up to? I look up to my parents.
For me, my family is my world. It's the people that I spend my best moments with and who are there to share ups and downs with me. I've grown up learning from my parents. Getting my core values, perspectives, notion of the world etc from them.
They are the people I hope to become one day. And this has been the case ever since. Everything they teach, everything they guide us for, it's all so precious and important to me. It means so much. It's like my guiding principle that I always want to follow.
Even when I am in tough situations I try to look at how my parents would respond or act in this situation, and then try to act in a similar way. I aim to learn from them, and this also stimulated the emotions of coming ahead to help, support, care and love.
I think everytime a child helps their parents, with whatever it is, it's not just because it's what is expected of the child but also because that is truly what response is ingrained in the child due to the values that have been passed on from the parents. Most of human development and learning, such as in the brain, takes place within 3 years of age. Thus, the majority of foundational development happens at home, with parents. So their teachings are essentially what defines us.
I look up to my parents for everything they have done for us, from the smallest to the biggest things. I truly believe that actions speak louder than words and that's why I always want to express my gratitude in actions, by not just saying thanks but showing, depicting and expressing my thanks to them and how I admire them.
I think that is when one truly goes from speech to emotions, words to feelings, and that’s what family is all about.
With this inspiration, I strive to become a better person everyday. Anytime that I get lazy while doing work, feel like taking frequent breaks, feel demotivated or whatever else, I think to myself about what my goal is. What I aim to become. What I hope to be. And that truly works, brings me back and does even greater- pushes me to become a better person.
This journey of learning from my role models is truly inspiring and enriching, and I hope that one day I can take myself to the perfection my parents are.
